District hires Heritage Lanscaping to manage professional landscape plan for neighborhood
|
Using a combination of tax dollars and grants, our neighborhood has made a significant investment in a streetscape plan. To date, we have invested over $350,000 to construct the circle and fountain in the 5000 block plus planters, historic lighting and other streetscape features along our street.
In order to protect this investment for many years to come, the District has implemented a professional landscaping and maintenance plan and awarded a contract to Heritage Landscaping to manage planting at public spaces in the neighborhood.
The trustees have laid out goals to guide our plan.
Landscaping goals 1. Consistent look. The District wants a consistent look for the plantings from one end of the street to the other. 2. Year-round interest. The District wants to create year-round interest through the use of evergreens and plants with colorful or interesting limbs and other structures. 3. Color. The District wants to provide seasonal interest with the use of colorful annuals and bulbs. 4. Cost reductions. The District wants to rely on shrubs and perennials as the basis of the plantings to minimize annual planting costs.
In addition to landscape planting and maintenance, the District also has engaged a company to provide basic maintenance for the fountain area and the other street planters. The company will maintain and neaten the planting areas on a monthly basis and repair the inevitable periodic damage from vehicles, severe weather and other causes.
Our ultimate goal is to make certain that these areas in which we have invested so much continue to look beautiful five, ten, 15 and many more years into the future.
